Mise-en-scene

       I chose to write about the movie "Spotlight".  I chose this movie primarily because I had not seen it before and I had heard it was a very good movie. "Spotlight" is a movie detailing the investigation and story of the spotlight team at the Boston Globe and their reporting of the systemic abuse of children and cover-ups by the Catholic Church.        There are multiple locations that movie takes place in, however, in primarily is set within the office of the Boston Globe,  the homes of the journalists, a Boston high school, and courthouses. These settings most key feature is their proximity. Throughout the movie, as the journalists slowly unwind the scandal and the cover-up they begin to realize how far-reaching the influence if the church and how widespread the issue of the abuse is. 5 Master Edits Movie Examples  This is an example of leitmotif from Star Wars, the Imperial March theme plays whenever Darth Vader enters a scene.   This is an example of contrast from Interstellar. In this scene, the character is dreaming about their flight crashing, and it cuts to a shot of him sleeping in his bed safely. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TAbbJT0ZXmk&t=68s This is an example of simultaneity from Inception, in this scene, the character is being followed at the hotel within the dream of the dream while at the same time in the dream level above him the driver is being attacked in the car. The scenes cut back and forth to build tension. Link to 5 Master Edits Video:  https://youtu.be/ZvFvtNSjlFw           During this assignment, I was tasked with making a video that demonstrated 5 editing techniques: contrast, symbolism, simultaneity, parallelism, and leitmotif.            Contrast: The first editing technique I chose to demonstrate is contrast. Contrast is when a director cuts back and forth between two completely different shots to demonstrate their differences. In this case, I show a happy Cooper reading a book and a sad Mickey typing on the computer.            Symbolism: The second technique I chose was symbolism or when a director transitions between two relative shots.
