5 Master Edits Movie Examples 


This is an example of leitmotif from Star Wars, the Imperial March theme plays whenever Darth Vader enters a scene.

 
This is an example of contrast from Interstellar. In this scene, the character is dreaming about their flight crashing, and it cuts to a shot of him sleeping in his bed safely.

This is an example of simultaneity from Inception, in this scene, the character is being followed at the hotel within the dream of the dream while at the same time in the dream level above him the driver is being attacked in the car. The scenes cut back and forth to build tension.




This is an example of parallelism from Interstellar, in the scene as the character is leaving his home and family which means the world to him,  the shot then cuts to his spaceship leaving the actual world.

   

This is an example of symbolism from an episode of Hell's Kitchen, it shows a person failing to cook scallops it then cuts to a scene of scallops being messed up and drop on the floor similar to how the cook dropped the ball.

Filming Week 1

This week my group did our practice run for our film. We took some practice shots in order to see what shots would work best for conveying what we wanted to show through our film, with a focus on suspense.  This is from a shot of me running from the beginning of the opening. The shot follows me as I run past the camera. This gives the audience the feeling that I am being watched which adds to the suspense. While the shot worked fine, we found it was a little difficult to film, so we decided the camera moving alongside me would be better. This shot shows my dead body from the end of the opening. We decided a high angle shot would work best as it would show the viewers my whole body. However, we noticed it was difficult to get the shot as the high angle made filming my whole body difficult from the horizontal angle.

Editing Week 1

This week we began editing our film opening. After we uploaded the footage to Adobe Premiere Pro, we started by cutting our film. All of our videos had tons of extra footage of pauses, and us yelling cut, these needed to be edited out along with any other dead footage. We also lowered the exposure of the video to add to the suspense, but this had an inverse effect of increasing the volume. We also began adding in the music that plays through my headphones throughout the opening.
