Assignment 5

Link to 5 Master Edits Video:  https://youtu.be/ZvFvtNSjlFw           During this assignment, I was tasked with making a video that demonstrated 5 editing techniques: contrast, symbolism, simultaneity, parallelism, and leitmotif.            Contrast: The first editing technique I chose to demonstrate is contrast. Contrast is when a director cuts back and forth between two completely different shots to demonstrate their differences. In this case, I show a happy Cooper reading a book and a sad Mickey typing on the computer.            Symbolism: The second technique I chose was symbolism or when a director transitions between two relative shots. For my video, I show a video of something watching a person with the camera itself symbolizing a security camera watching a person.             Simultaneity: The third shot I chose was simultaneity or...

Assignment 4

For this assignment, I had to watch a movie of my choice and analyze how some of the shots we learned about last week were used in the film specifically to create emotion. For my movie, I chose Avengers: Infinity War. I decided on this movie because I was very familiar with it (I had seen it three times before this assignment) I thought that because I knew the film so well, I could focus more on the assignment and identifying the shots.           This is a close-up and follow shot. This shot creates a lot of emotion within the viewer, firstly, it creates shock in the viewer as they see the many dead bodies that lie on the spaceship floor. Secondly, they feel curiosity, as the audience wonders the fate of the characters they know reside on that ship, and lastly, it creates this sense of hel...

Assignment 3

For this assignment, I had to watch videos of different camera shots taken by my fellow classmates. I had to comment specifically on how the shot they used conveyed different emotions. For this assignment, I chose to comment on Mickey and Kiley's blogs.           Kiley's blog was very coherent almost every shot had one of two different characters, most with these two characters interacting in a romantic way. This was my comment for Kiley's blog:           The panning shot did a good job at establishing the scene without particularly focusing on one subject. The two-shot was very effective in creating a clear emotional connection between the two characters. The cameo shot was cool because it forced the viewer to pay attention to only what the character was saying. My favorite shot was the establishing shot as it clearly established the setting for the rest of the shots taken.   ...
