In order to create a suspenseful atmosphere, my team decided that shooting in darkness would be the best. We decided to film early in the morning when my character is going for a morning run, beginning with an establishing shot. As my character runs, there is  diegetic sound coming from my headphones as I listen to music. My character will then see a strange car, the shot will alternate between the perspective of me and car as I notice the car is abandoned. This scares me, and I run, there is a loud noise, and I turn around to find the car gone. Suspenseful non-diegetic swells in the background before I am attacked with a bat, I wake up in an abandoned house, and the opening ends.

I will work with Erin Watson, Maddie Hopkins, and Lily Rosenblum on a film with the mystery/detective genre.

How many titles are displayed during the opening sequences to the film? There was only the Dreamworks title. What images are prioritized in the opening sequence? A medium shot of a story book telling a fairy tale. What connotations do the images carry? Mainly sarcastic tones, poking fun at  traditional fairy tale genre tropes. How is genre reinforced through symbolic and technical codes from the outset? The comedic nature is reinforced through the sarcasm and the children's element is reinforced by the story telling structure.  How does the film establish an enigma from the outset? The cut from the storybook to the music video sequence highlights the humor of the movie. What strategies are used to ensure the film appeals to its target audience? The crude nature of the music video's fart jokes appeals to the children. How has technology been used effectively? How many titles are displayed during the opening sequences to the film? Many titles appear as we see the names of various actors and other people involved in making the film, along with the titled. What images are prioritized in the opening sequence? Very wide shot angles emphasizing the harsh journey the slaves are undertaking and the even harsher conditions the slaves themselves are under. What connotations do the images carry? There is a sarcastic connotation, a contrast demonstrating the atrocities of slavery in a very inconsequential matter. How is the genre reinforced through symbolic and technical codes from the outset? The forlorn music in the back and the old desert landscapes reinforce the western theme.
